Baptism and confirmation are joyful and significant steps

in our journey with God.

Whether you are

considering baptism for your child,

exploring baptism for yourself,

or thinking about confirmation,

you are warmly invited to speak with us.

You do not need to have everything worked out before contacting the church. We would be pleased to listen to your questions, explain what is involved and help you discern the right next step.

Baptism for Children

Baptism, also known as christening, is a joyful celebration in which we welcome a child into the family of the Church.

During the service, parents and godparents make promises to help the child grow in faith, learn about Jesus and take their place within the life of the Church. The church community also promises to support and pray for the child and family.

You do not need to be a regular churchgoer to begin a conversation about baptism. We will meet with you, explain the service and help you prepare for this special occasion.

Baptism for Adults

Baptism is not only for children. Adults who have not previously been baptised may choose baptism as a public beginning of their life as a follower of Jesus Christ.

Before baptism, we will spend time with you exploring the Christian faith, answering your questions and helping you understand the promises made during the service. There is no pressure, and you are welcome to explore faith at your own pace.

Baptism marks the beginning of a lifelong journey with God and membership within the Christian community.

Confirmation

Confirmation is an opportunity for baptised young people and adults to affirm the Christian faith for themselves.

During a confirmation service, candidates renew their baptismal promises and declare their intention to follow Jesus Christ. The bishop prays for each candidate and asks God to strengthen them through the Holy Spirit.

Anyone considering confirmation will be invited to take part in preparation sessions. These provide a welcoming space to explore the Christian faith, ask questions and consider what it means to follow Jesus in everyday life.

Other information

Baptisms takes place in our church buildings on Sunday. It can take place during the regular service or as a separate service.

What if I live outside the parish of Old Windsor?
If you do not live in the parish or attend one of our parish services regularly, your local parish vicar will be contacted that he is happy for the baptism to go ahead in our parish.

Will this cost anything?
No. There is no charge for this (although you are always welcome to make a donation to the church’s ministry).

Do we have to dress smartly?
Our church is very relaxed, flexible and welcoming. If you want to dress up, that’s great, but if you want to be more informal, that’s fine. The important thing is the meaning, not the clothing.

How many people can come as friends and relatives?
As many as you like, we encourage you to make it a true celebration!
